The Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple Dwaraka Tirumala, located in the quiet hill town of Dwaraka Tirumala, is lovingly called Chinna Tirupati (Mini Tirupati). For thousands of devotees who cannot travel to Tirumala, this temple serves as an equally powerful spiritual alternative.
Dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, the shrine follows the Vaikhanasa Agama Sastra for all rituals. What makes this temple truly unique is that the sanctum houses two forms of the Lord—a full idol and a partially visible Swayambhu manifestation, believed to be exactly how the deity appeared to Sage Dwaraka.
Set atop a gentle hillock surrounded by greenery, Dwaraka Tirumala offers a calmer, more intimate darshan experience compared to larger pilgrimage centers. The atmosphere is simple and devotional—morning bells echo across the town, pilgrims walk barefoot up the slope, and priests chant ancient mantras just as they have for centuries.

History and Architectural Significance
Ancient Origins
Legend says Sage Dwaraka performed intense penance on this hill to seek Lord Venkateswara’s blessings. Pleased, the Lord manifested here, leading to the consecration of the Swayambhu idol. Over time, kings and local rulers developed the shrine into a major Vaishnavite center.
Two Deities in One Sanctum
This temple is rare because it enshrines:
- A full Utsava Murti used for festivals and rituals
- A partial Swayambhu form, visible from the ground upward, symbolizing the Lord’s divine appearance to the sage
Architecture
The temple reflects classic Dravidian style with a modest Rajagopuram, granite-pillared halls, and a serene hilltop layout. Unlike Tirumala’s vast complex, Dwaraka Tirumala feels personal—allowing devotees closer access and longer moments before the deity.
Because of this sacred parallel with Tirupati, pilgrims often complete vows here when travel to Tirumala is not possible.
