The Arasuri Ambaji Mata Temple, located in the serene Aravalli ranges of Ambaji, is one of the most powerful Shakti shrines in the country. Revered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, Ambaji is deeply unique—there is no physical idol of the Goddess. Instead, devotees worship the mystical Shree Visa Yantra, a sacred geometric form representing Adi Shakti herself.
Unlike many temples where the deity is carved in stone, Ambaji preserves an ancient tradition that predates idol worship. From a distance, the Yantra is beautifully adorned to appear like a fully dressed Goddess, but inside the sanctum rests only this powerful symbol of cosmic energy.

History – The Sacred Heart of Goddess Sati
Ambaji’s spiritual roots come from the Daksha Yagna legend. It is believed that when Lord Vishnu used the Sudarshana Chakra to calm Lord Shiva by dismembering Sati’s body, her heart fell here, sanctifying this hill forever.
The Legend of the Danta King
Ancient stories speak of the King of Danta, who climbed Gabbar Hill daily to worship the Goddess. Exhausted, he prayed for her mercy. The Goddess agreed to follow him downhill—on one condition: he must not look back. When silence from her anklets made him turn, she stopped at that very spot, where today’s temple stands.
A Shrine Older Than Idol Worship
